The Mentor Parks, Recreation & Public Facilities Department offers more than 1,200 ways to play each year. From art work shops, fitness classes, senior trips, and day camps to golf instruction, kayaking tours, nature walks and hockey leagues, the department offers something for everyone..


The City of Mentor Recreation Department operates three family-friends outdoor swimming pools, each featuring designated lap lanes, baby pool, tether ball, water basketball, and more. Each can be rented for special occasions.

All three pools have an extensive Red Cross Learn to Swim program for ages 6 months through adult. Lifeguard training, water exercise, scuba training and special events are all offered. Learn more.

Mentor’s Bikeway System consists of a combination of bike lanes and bikepaths. In 1999, Mentor was one of only two cities in the entire Greater Cleveland Area to receive a Bicycle Friendly Community Award from the League of American Bicyclists, a national bicycle advocacy group. The award recognizes a city’s commitment to constructing comprehensive bikeway systems. Mentor continues to expand its Bikeway System as resources become available.  Learn more.


The Mentor Lagoons Marina adjoins the nature preserve and offers a safe harbor with no flooding, as well as quick, direct access to Lake Erie. The Mentor Parks & Recreation Department offers dozens of kayaking, canoeing, sailing and leisure paddling opportunities as well as the Ohio Boaters Education Course. Learn more.


The City of Mentor owns and operates the Black Brook Golf Course & Practice Center. This beautiful 8-hole public course features watered fairways, paved cart paths, a practice putting green and a new practice center with ten target greens, practice bunker and 1-1/2 acre tee area. The clubhouse has a fully stocked Pro Shop and snack bar with an attached pavilion for catered outings.

The course offers golf schools, private lessons and a Junior Golf League serving more than 100 young golfers each summer. Black Brook offers a variety of leagues for men, women, coed, couples and juniors. Learn more.


The Mentor Ice Arena is the coolest spot in town! It’s the only indoor ice skating complex in Lake County. The Arena is open year round and offers a variety of skating programs and camps. Learn more.


Pickleball is one of the fastest growing sports in the country.  The City of Mentor has 12 courts at our Civic Center Park facility – making it one of the largest, state-of-the-art complexes in the country. Leagues, classes and equipment available. Learn more.


Each year, the Junior Women’s Club of Mentor sponsors a safety awareness program called Safety Town. Mentor Firefighters along with several assistants, teach young children, ages 4 through 6, how to stay safe at home and away from home.

Safety Town is held at Garfield Elementary School. Complete information is available at You can pick up registration forms from the Mentor Recreation Department, Civic Arena, Mentor Public Libraries and from Kindergarten Roundup at all elementary schools. Register by mail through the end of April.

Mentor athletic leagues are Mentor-based organizations that serve Mentor residents.The city does not run these organizations nor does the city govern the rules and bylaws of these organizations.


The City of Mentor Recreation Department offers more than 100 different camp experiences each summer for kids ages 4 and older. Registration for 2017 camps begins Monday, January 30 for residents and Tuesday, January 31 for nonresidents.
