Carl Jara  Carl
You may recognize this guy. From right here in Greater Cleveland, he’s been sculpting sand up and down the Lake Erie shore and all over Ohio for the past twenty three years. His rather illustrious career has earned him dozens of medals at contests worldwide, and he’s won a whopping fourteen World Championship medals.

Suzanne Altamare  Altamare
Here’s another familiar face for you. Altamare began sculpting sand for a living in 1982 as Marc Altamare’s sand slave and apprentice.  She loves carving compaction but is best known for soft sand sculptures. She lives in Daytona Beach, Florida where her work can be seen beach side at Ocean Walk Shoppes in the winter.

Greg Grady  Greg
Returning again this year, Greg is a self-taught, Marine Corp. veteran artist and a 2nd generation sand sculptor. He enjoys working with sand, snow, ice, wood and pumpkins. Greg expanded his professional sand sculpture business into organizing contests, exhibitions, promotional events, and team building workshops.

Jon Woodworth  jon
New to our competition this year, Woodworth (affectionately known as “SandDad”) is just a kid at heart and as such, loves to play in the sand. His wife, Kristie, joins him when possible. Jon has been sand sculpting since 1991 and began entering Amateur contests in 2000, eventually moving into the Masters division in 2006.

Jeff Strong  Jeff
Our final addition to this year’s event, Strong loves pushing sand to its physical limits while creating shapes with beautiful form. As a computer programmer at University of Puget Sound, he enjoys getting away to the sand on vacations. Jeff’s early attempts at sand castles finally took off in 2001 when he met Pacific Northwest master sculptors and joined their team for beach competitions.

Steel drum guys
Live Steel Drum music provided by Found Sound, the Akron Steel Drum Band, and Island Jeff will be played throughout the day, as well as some hands on activity!
