Black Brook Earns Family Course Grant
The City of Mentor’s Black Brook Golf Course has been named as a recipient of the 2010 Family Course Grant, jointly awarded by the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) and the Professional Golf Association (PGA). The award was given to only 60 courses in the United States and Black Brook Golf Course was the only Ohio course awarded.
The grant program is designed to engage young people and their families in the sport of golf. Black Brook Golf Course will receive packages for 9-hole play that help create a beginner-friendly short course within the existing course layout, with transitional steps incorporated to accommodate improvements in player ability. The packages include tee plates; cart path plates; program guidelines produced by U.S. Kids Golf and recommending course set-up, yardages, tee locations and more for younger players; and templates for score cards, award certificates and player development programs – all geared toward youth and families. The grant is designed to help young people learn the game of golf and transition young players from the driving range to the golf course.
Congratulations, Black Brook!
