The Mentor Senior Center offers a variety of health and social services. Health Fair Expo
Wednesday, June 27, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Mentor Senior Center
Join the Mentor Senior Center for this free health fair expo. Enjoy health talks, screenings, and wellness and senior living options. Visit vendor tables that will provide information to help you monitor and improve your health. Refreshments, raffles and more! Free. Memory Boosting Strategies

Learn new techniques and effective strategies to help to boost and maintain your memory. This class is for you if you want to exercise your brain and support your memory functioning. The class includes stimulating exercises, discussion and support to help you or someone you know to enhance memory skills. Delay the Disease: Exercise to Fight Parkinson’s Symptoms
Delay the Disease is a fitness program designed to empower people with Parkinson’s Disease (PD), by optimizing their physical function and helping delay the progression of symptoms. The class will focus on Parkinson’s specific exercises to help fight the symptom’s of the disease. No equipment or expertise is necessary; just participate at your own level of ability. Caregivers are encouraged to join us, too!

Visionaries Low Vision Support & Discussion Group
Facilitator: Deborah Kogler
If you or someone you know suffer from vision impairment—you’re not alone. The monthly meetings are not only informative but a lot of fun! There is no fee, but please call the Senior Center at (440) 974-5725 to register.  Typically the last Wednesday of the month, 2 – 4 p.m.

Memory Care Support Group
This support and discussion group for caregivers covers a variety of topics including signs & symptoms, available resources, help for the caregiver and any topic that the group would like to address. This program is sponsored by the Mentor Senior Center, Kemper House of Mentor, & the Alzheimer’s Association. Newcomers are always welcome, no fee. Refreshments are served. Group meets in Activity Room 4.   Typically meets the second and 4th Thursday of each month, 1-2 p.m.

Income Tax Assistance With AARP Volunteers
Trained volunteers will assist in the completion of state and federal income tax forms. The volunteers do not assist with city tax forms. Bring with you these items: copy of last year’s income tax return (s) and supporting documentation; W-2 & W-2p forms from each employer if you earned a salary; SSA-1099 forms (1099-INT, 1099-DIV, 1099-MISC, etc) showing interest, and or dividends and original purchase price of sold assets; 1099 form from the payer of your pension or annuity; unemployment compensation statements; all forms indicating federal income tax paid; all receipts or cancelled checks if itemizing deductions; and your social security card. This is a free service but advance registration is required by calling the Senior Center at (440 974-5725.

Living With Loss
Facilitator: Debbie Muzik, Ph. D.
This is an education and short-term support group for those suffering the loss of a loved one. Four sessions to help you learn about the grief process; acquiring coping skills, and to share your experience with others who are also grieving. Participants in previous groups found it easier in a group with others experiencing similar challenges, and to have useful hand-outs to take with them for future reference. The group is open to adults of all ages.

Podiatrist
Podiatrist services are available on Wednesdays. The cost is$15 and services are by appointment only. Advance registration is required. Call (440) 974-5725 to register.

Blood Pressure Screening
Blood pressure checks are available free of charge the first Wenesday of the month from 12:30-1:30 p.m. Advance registration is required. Please call (440) 974-5725 to register.

Vitality Massage
Treat yourself to a massage! Vitality massage is a 20-minute treatment in a specially designed chair. The cost is $12. Advance registration is required. Please call (440) 974-5725 to register.

Attorney Services
Brief consultations with attorney Gary Rosenthal are available, typically on the third Wednesday of each month. There is no fee, but please call (440) 974-5725 to register in advance.

Employment Opportunities Referral Service for Seniors
Ann Thompkins, Job Developer, from the Council on Aging will be available to meet with Seniors that are interested in locating employment for themselves. Any local businesses who are interested in employing seniors can call Ann Thompkins at (440) 205-8111 ext. 232. With this service the goal is to match local businesses with seniors for possible jobs. There is no fee for these services but please call the Senior Center at (440) 974-5725 to register.
