Zorro won’t hold a candle to you after you learn the fundamentals of modern foil fencing in this new class. Instruction includes stretching, footwork, lunges, attack, parry-riposte, strategy, tactics and bouting. Fun and safety are emphasized while developing hand-eye coordination, agility, dexterity and stamina as well as social skills and manners. All equipment is provided, so come out and try something new.

Strengthen and firm your torso, flatten your belly, and define your midsection in this 30-minute class with new exercises devoted to working on the upper, lower and side abdominal muscles. Pilates
Teen & Adult
You will build strength in your core muscles during this challenging class. Many exercises will focus on your abs, back, and hips. Health benefits of Pilates include: improved core stability, posture, balance, flexibility, and prevention and treatment of back pain. An exercise mat and light hand weights (3 lb. weights are best).

Do you Zumba? The Zumba exercise craze has hit Mentor! Here’s your chance to learn the newest fitness routine – an intensely fun workout combining cha-cha, salsa, reggae and hip-hop dance moves with a few traditional moves like squats and plies. You’ll burn calories, laugh, dance, and enjoy moving to energetic music. Dance experience is not required, you’ll learn as you go. Class is great for teens and adults. Bring a waterbottle, a towel and wear good exercise shoes.
Mentor in Motion
All Ages
This program is a personal challenge event that encourages all members of our community, from kids to seniors, to get active and 100 miles. And best of all, it’s simple. As a participant in Mentor in Motion, you can walk, run, bike, hike, swim, skate, even golf your way toward completing 100 miles of motion. It’s easier than you think to accomplish. Walk one mile (about 2200 steps) five days a week and you’ll reach 100 miles before you know it. Take the challenge and involve your family members, too. This is a great event for all. Sign up and we’ll send you everything you need to get started including a pedometer to help count your miles. You’ll also get an exercise conversion sheet to help you track your motion across a variety of movements and a personalized record log to set your goals and record your miles, and lots more!

Senior Classes
Arthritis Association Exercise
Senior
This class is designed to help those with joint or muscle problems acheive improved joint mobility, muscle strength and endurance in order to improve the performance of their daily acyivities. Class consists of exercise (stretching, strengthening, and endurance routines), health education, movement activities and relaxation exercises.
Delay the Disease
Delay the Disease is a fitness program designed to empower people with Parkinson’s Disease, by optimizing their physical function and helping delay the progression of symptoms. The classes focus on Parkinson’s specific exercises that help fight the symptom’s of the disease. No equipment or expertise is necessary; just participate at your own level of ability. Caregivers may attend to assist particpant at no charge. If caregivers would like to participate in the class, they may register and pay the class fee.
Low Impact Aerobics

This energetic aerobics class is designed for able-bodied seniors, with a small amount of resistance bands and weights.
Pilates (Core Fusion)

Pilates is a conditioning program based on the work of Joseph Pilates, that improves muscle control, flexibility, coordination and strength. Become more aware of your body and learn to use your core. This class consists primarily of floor work. Please bring your own mat.

Seated and standing aerobic exercise for increased flexibility and strength.
Stretch & Balance

This 45 minute class will incorprate stretching and balance exercises to increase your flexibility and balance. We will use a rope to stretch all the major muscle groups. Ropes will be provided. Tuesday will be a chair class and Thursday will be a mat class, please bring your own mat.
Tai Chi Seniors

Tai Chi is an especially effective exercise modality for older adults. It is a meditative and energetic form, one of the national treasures of China. This class is in the Wu style of Tai Chi.
Water Exercise at Heisley
Senior
This 45 minute water exercise class is designed especially for those 55 and older. The certified instructor provides clear instruction from the pool deck. Class includes a warm up and shallow water exercises including cardio, toning, and strength.
Weight Training

The focus is on work with resistance bands and weights, standing and seated, including mat work on the floor. Designed to build muscle strength and bone density. Bring your own exercise mat and free weights.
Yoga

Yoga is an ancient system of philosophy and practices. The yoga classes are a mixture of gentle stretches combined with traditional yoga postures. The sense of wellness acquired through practice is caused by easing muscle tension, massaging internal organs, and improving flexibility of the joints. The challenge of this practice lies in the coordination of breath with movement, which encourages quieting and relaxing the mind, focus and balance. Please bring a yoga mat and a firm cushion; wear loose or stretchy clothes for yoga classes.
Zumba Gold

Join us for this great new class. The Zumba® program fuses hypnotic Latin rhythms and easy-to-follow moves to create a one-of-a-kind fitness program. The routines feature interval training sessions where fast and slow rhythms and resistance training are combined to tone and sculpt your body while burning fat. Add some Latin flavor and international zest into the mix and you’ve got a Zumba® class! This class tailors the Zumba class to the active older adult. Come check it out.
