Property Maintenance

Residential and nonresidential property owners are required to maintain the exterior of their premises so that the appearance of their property does not negatively impact the immediate neighborhood. The premises, including drainage facilities, must be maintained in good repair and appearance in compliance with City Ordinances. Building owners and/or occupants are responsible for maintaining the premises in a clean, sanitary condition and in good repair.

Property Maintenance Codes also require the inspection of all residential rental properties every two years. If you are renting an apartment or a house in Mentor, and you feel that the property is not being properly maintained, contact the City of Mentor for assistance. Mentor’s Property Maintenance Inspectors administer the provisions of this code. If you have specific questions, call (440) 974-5740 or email the Community Development Department.

If you have a concern regarding a specific property, call our Code Enforcement Hotline at (440) 974-5792. If calling after business hours, you can leave a message that provides the reason for your call and the address of the property in question. You can also remain anonymous, if you wish. Inspectors investigate all complaints.
