Come to the coolest spot in town! It’s the only indoor ice skating complex in Lake County. With two regulation-size ice rinks, a studio rink, locker rooms and a snack bar, the Arena is open year round and provides something for anyone who enjoys the sport of skating. On the second floor, above the Arena, is a complete rental facility complex.

Mentor Ice Arena Offers Programs for Every Skater’s Ability

From Learn-to-Skate lessons to Youth and Adult Hockey, from Figure Skating to Special Skater programs, the Mentor Civic Arena offers a wide range of skating and hockey programs to fit every skater’s ability.


The After School Skating Program is one of the Civic Ice Arena’s most popular programs.

We provide bus transportation from Mentor’s elementary schools to the Mentor Ice Arena after school for a half-hour ice skating lesson followed by 1- 1/2 hours of open skating time with friends.

Participants are fully supervised by Arena staff from the moment they enter the bus until parents pick up at the conclusion of the open skate session.  Explanation of Sign Out Procedures

The After School Bus Program is for K – 5th grade students attending Mentor elementary schools as well as St. Mary’s Elementary and Willo-Hill.

Participation fee covers transportation from school to the Arena, plus skate rental and admission to the open skate session.

Arena staff assists participants with putting on skates and supervise the children on and off the ice.

The Mentor Figure Skating Club, based at the Mentor Ice Arena, was formed in 1984 to encourage the instruction, practice and advancement of its members in all forms of figure skating, including free skating, pairs skating, ice dancing, and synchronized skating.  Hundreds of young skaters have moved through the club, with more than 120 currently participating.

The Mentor Ice Diamonds Synchronized Skating group participated in competitions locally and nationally.

The Club sponsors the Annual Sunshine Invitational Competition in July and the Annual Diamond Classic Synchronized Team Skating Competition in February.

The Mentor Ice Arena hosts competitive and recreational hockey programs for all ages, interests and skill levels. Learn more!

The Mentor Ice Arena follows the United States Figure Skating (USFS) Basic Skills Program in providing Learn-to-Skate lessons to all persons three years of age and older.

Learn to Skate Lessons
The Learn-to-Skate program advances skaters on a natural progression: children ages three to five must begin in the Tot Program; children ages six and up begin with the Basic Program. Adults of all ages are welcome to participate in a Basic Program for Adults Only. Tot lessons are 30 minutes long and held once a week for seven weeks. All other Learn-to-Skate classes are 45 minutes long and are also held once a week for seven weeks.

New skaters begin with either Tot 1 or Basic 1, depending on their age. Skaters who have passed all eight levels of the Basic Program can continue working at the freestyle level. Please contact the rink at (440) 974-5730 for more information on freestyle lessons.

Skaters who have passed at least Level 6 of the Basic Program can continue learning in the Jr. Club/Freestyle Class / Basic 7 /or / Basic 8 courses.

An Adult Learn to Skate course is also offered for beginner, intermediate and advanced skaters.

Mentor Ice Area offers open skating sessions year round – please refer to the calendar for the next open skate.

Children eight and under (and a parent) can skate on the Studio Rink with children their own size. It’s a great time for younger children to practice skating skills or simply skate at their own pace!

Mentor Civic Arena reserves the right to change times if necessary. For safety reasons, attendance during Open Skates may need to be limited. All skaters ten and under must wear a safety helmet (or bicycle helmet) in order to skate.

Luncheon Skate
Luncheon skates are a great way to get in a little exercise and have some fun during the lunch hour. The cost is only $4. This special rate does NOT apply on Mentor School holidays or other school closings. On those days, regular admission fees apply.

Home School Skate Ages 4 – 17
Mentor Ice Arena provides ice time for this exciting and beneficial form of recreation for home school children. Parents are not required to skate with children. $5/person (skates included)

Play Date on Ice  Ages 6 & under
Every Friday  Mentor Ice Arena offers a play date for any child not yet in first grade accompanied by at least one skating adult. Strollers are welcome. $4.00/person (skates included)


The Mentor Ice Arena’s Special Skaters Program is an exciting and beneficial form of recreation for youths and adults with disabilities. Skating instruction is provided by ice arena staff who are assisted by volunteers. Skate time and social time is also included in the program.

In addition, Special Skaters have the opportunity to compete in Special Olympic events.

The program runs from September through March during the regular season.

Winter classes are on Tuesdays through March 25th.

Rental Information

Studio Rink Parties
Want a more private party? Rent the Studio Rink and avoid the crowds. The studio rink and lounge are great for youth birthday parties. The studio rink is smaller than the East and West Rinks and best suited for children under 12 years of age. Price includes studio rink, lounge area, kitchenette and private restrooms. $2 per person skate rental is an additional charge.

Large Rink Parties
Try something new or entertain your friends or group. Rent one of our large rinks for your school, class, church, scout group, etc. Hourly ice rental applies along with a $10 per hour charge for skate attendants. $2 per person skate rental is an additional charge.
