Lake County General Health District Mosquito Treatment Schedule

Over the past several weeks, the city of Mentor has received a number of inquiries from concerned about the elevated mosquito population this year – especially in the Headlands area.

We reached out to the Lake County General Health District (LCGHD), the agency responsible for measuring and treating mosquito populations in our community, in order to convey these concerns and to seek their guidance.

The agency is investigating several solutions including increasing the frequency and coverage of their spraying efforts. In the meantime, residents are encouraged to take proactive measures on their properties to help mitigate the issue, including:

  • Personal Treatments: Residents can apply mosquito treatments to their properties, always ensuring they follow all product recommendations and instructions.
  • Protective Clothing: While it may be challenging given the current weather, wearing long sleeves and pants can help prevent bites.
  • Eliminate Standing Water: Crucially, residents should regularly remove any standing water from their properties, as these are prime breeding grounds for mosquitoes.

Ultimately, the most significant relief from this issue will likely come when the humidity levels decrease or cease.

The city will continue to post the treatment schedule on our website and inform our residents of any updates from the Lake County General Health District.
