A senior speaking into a cell phone.

Lake County residents aged 60 and older can enroll in the free Phone Pal Program, which matches participants with a vetted volunteer to reduce loneliness and isolation by providing consistent, personal check-ins.

National reports indicate that more than 34% of adults aged 65 and older experience chronic loneliness and social isolation, which is linked to higher risks of dementia, heart disease, depression, and other health concerns. Regular conversations through the program help support social connection and well-being.

The Lake County Volunteer Network matches friendly volunteers (aged 55+) with older adults who are feeling lonely and/or isolated and would like to connect with someone. On the designated days and times, a volunteer calls the participant for a phone visit that will be like two friends catching up.

Community members aged 55 and older who are interested in volunteering can contact the Lake County Volunteer Network at (440) 350-5360 or [email protected].

There is no cost to participate. Eligible residents can sign up by calling (440) 350-2020. Additional information is available at https://www.lakecountyohio.gov/senior-services/268-2/phone-pal-program/.

This program is offered through Lake County and is supported, in part, with AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP funds.
