The Bard is in charge at Wildwood Cultural Center, 7645 Little Mountain Rd., Mentor, OH on Sunday, July 24, 2016. In cooperation with the Geauga Lyric Theater Guild, Wildwood Cultural Center and the Mentor Community Arts Commission will present a one day Shakespeare festival celebrating the art of live theater in the park. In addition to two Shakespearian comedic performances at 11:00am and 4pm, workshops, vendors, and interactive family activities will be available throughout the day.
First up at 11:00 a.m., Director Angela Miloro-Hansen will be offering As You Like It, a favorite romantic comedy. Banished by her uncle to the Forest of Arden, a young woman disguises herself as a man and puts her would-be husband to the test, discovering both her partner and herself in an instant. This performance, geared for the whole family, will be presented by a teen cast from throughout Lake, Geauga, Portage and Cuyahoga Counties.
At 4pm, director Mark Cipra will present Twelfth Night, Shakespeare’s comedy of gender confusion, in which a girl disguises herself as a man to be near the count she adores, only to be pursued by the woman he loves! The all-star adult cast provides a modern interpretation on this classic story.
Both productions are full of laughs and are FREE of charge. A little sword fighting and a lot of romance for a summer afternoon. Sword fighting demonstrations, interactive theater workshops and more! Bring a picnic or purchase from onsite vendors at the festival.
