Drawing from his extensive private collection, Brighton willshowcase original artifacts that tell the personal stories of seven Patriotsoldiers. This immersive look at our nation's founding features authenticmilitary gear, original portraits, and rare manuscripts, alongside earlyAmericana like Native American trade silver, ceramics, and pewter. Todd Brighton was born and raised in Wyandotte, Michigan. Heearned a bachelor’s degree in finance from Western Michigan University and amaster’s degree as a Wolcott Fellow at The George Washington University inWashington, D.C. He began his federal career as a Presidential ManagementFellow and spent most of his 35-years in public service as a Senior PolicyAdvisor with the U.S. Department of Justice. There is a local connection; Brighton’s fourth greatgrandfather, Garrit Brass, served in the Revolutionary War from 1781-1783with the Massachusetts Militia and the 1st Massachusetts Regiment of theContinental Line. He moved his family to Mentor Township in 1812. Theirfarm was located along what is now Garfield Road between Mentor Avenue andJohnnycake Ridge Road. Brass is interred in the Mentor Municipal Cemetery. This is a free event sponsored by the city of Mentor. Lightrefreshments will be provided. The ceremony will be preceded by a solemn parade which will step-off at 9:30 AM from Memorial Middle School located at 8979 Mentor Avenue. It will proceed north to the cemetery, arriving at the Mentor Memorial Promenade. Members of city council and administration, county and state elected officials, and other veterans and civic groups will be in attendance.
