Mentor experienced its first blast of winter this past Thanksgiving holiday weekend with parts of the city receiving upwards of 20” of snow over the past several days. Public Works crews are doing their best to keep up with the snowfall.
City Facilities Open
All Mentor facilities are open today, December 2, 2024.
Snow Emergency Parking Ban
A Snow Emergency / Street Parking Ban remains in effect in the city of Mentor. A Snow Emergency is defined as that time when there has been an accumulation of snow, sleet, hail, or ice on any streets or roads. No parking is permitted on any city street during a Snow Emergency. Please remove parked cars from the roadway during a snow event.
Plowing Status
City of Mentor forces are tasked with keeping over 500 lane miles of roadway passable during snow events. Main roads (such as Center Street, Mentor Avenue and Heisley Road), secondary routes (such as Adkins, North Palmerston and Garden Lane), side streets, and cul-de-sacs, are attended to generally in that order. The city does not plow private drives.
Snow removal on SR-2 and I-90, as well as associated entrance/exit ramps, is managed by Lake County and the Ohio Department of Transportation respectively.

Trash, Recycling, and Yard Waste Delays
The Lake County Landfill is closed today (December 2, 2024). As a result, trash/recycling pick up for those with curbside service with Waste Management will be delayed by one day this week. Storm debris and yard waste collection may also be affected due to materials being snow covered and/or frozen in place. Please leave your yard waste curbside for pickup. Tree Lighting Ceremony
Get in on the holiday spirit at the city’s annual Community Tree Lighting on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM at the Mentor Municipal Center. Santa will arrive in his horse drawn carriage and will be available for photos while local choirs sing everyone’s holiday favorites. Light refreshments will be available. All are invited to this free event. The Mentor Municipal Center is located at 8500 Civic Center Boulevard.
City Council Meeting
Mentor City Council will meet at on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, at 7:00 PM in council chambers located on the third floor of the Mentor Municipal Center. The regularly scheduled council meeting will be preceded by a work session at 4:30 PM related to the Mentor Lagoons Shoreline Project Review.
Mentor City Council meetings are open to the public and are broadcast live on the Mentor Channel, Spectrum 1024, U-Verse 99, and on our App available for ROKU, Apple, Android, and Amazon Fire. Be a Santa to a Senior
This annual program benefits senior citizens in need right here in Lake County. Plenty of gift tags are available at the giving tree located in the lobby of the Mentor Municipal Center. Gift tags include requests for simple things like bath towels, dust pans, toiletries, stamps, and clothing. In addition, each senior will receive a letter, handwritten by a local honor society student, a handmade card, and a phone call.
Please choose a tag, or tags, and purchase the gift listed. When you are finished shopping, please return the gift (with the tag attached to it) to the box located next to the tree no later than December 6, 2024.
Help Mentor Fire Rescue the Needy
For the 30th year, members of the Mentor Fire Department, as well as family and friends, will brave the elements and help those in need in Lake County. The 2024 Mentor Fire Rescue the Needy Food Drive will take place on Friday, December 6, 2024, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and Saturday, December 7, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM, near the northeast entrance of the Great Lakes Mall by Barnes and Noble. Cash and non-perishable food donations will be accepted.
100% of proceeds from the Rescue the Needy Food Drive will directly benefit the Salvation Army Painesville Corps which serves Lake County. Donations stay in the community in which they are received to help serve those most in need. Since 1994, over $175,000 in cash and food donations have been raised.
