The City of Mentor is nearing completion of the railroad crossing to connect Mentor Avenue to Tyler Boulevard via Plaza Boulevard.

As the railroads have completed their crossing signal work, trains are now sounding their horns as they approach the crossing area.  The City of Mentor has been planning to relieve nearby residents of this issue by creation of a railroad quiet zone.  The crossing has been constructed in a way to permit the City to request that trains not sound their horns when approaching this crossing.

In following the procedures of the Federal Railroad Administration, a 60 day comment period has been completed with no objections from the railroads.  Mentor has since sent letters establishing the railroad quiet zone effective May 11, 2018.  At that time it is anticipated that all train horns will cease for this crossing.

We thank the residents of Mentor for their continued patience as this process is completed.
