Interview with a Vampire was playing in theaters and Boyz II Men were at the top of the charts when the Mentor Fire Department conducted their first Rescue the Needy Food Drive back in 1994. A lot has changed since then, but their dedication helping those in need right here in our own backyard has not.

Each year, Mentor Firefighter/Paramedic Dominic Vivolo and Lieutenant Mike Smith gather their team of firefighters who volunteer their time to collect non-perishable food and cash donations to benefit the needy of Lake County through the Salvation Army.

“Over the 25 past years, we estimate that we have raised over $150,000 in cash and food donations,” says Vivolo, “Lt. Mike Smith and I are very excited about this milestone that we have reached in our career with this event.”

This year’s drive will be held at the Great Lakes Mall on Friday, November 8th from 4:00 – 8:00 PM, and Saturday, November 9th from 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM.

“It’s important for all of us to give back to the community,” adds Vivolo, “and really important that we can help those right here in Lake County.  We hope the public will join us in making this year’s drive a huge success.”

The Great Lakes Mall is located at 7850 Mentor Avenue. The collection point will be located at the Northeast entrance near Max & Erma’s. For additional information, visit cityofmentor.com/calendar.
