The City of Mentor’s annual summer concert series kicks off June 23rd. Newly rebranded as “Mentor Rocks”, the weekly event promises to deliver music, food and family-fun.
“We have a diverse musical mix this year, with something for everyone. We’re all pretty excited about making this bigger and better than ever,” says Nick Standering, Director of Cultural Arts.
The free concerts will be held every Tuesday evening, June 23rd to August 4th, from 7:00 -9:00 pm at Mentor Civic Center Park, located next to the Mentor Municipal Center at 8500 Civic Center Boulevard.
The 2015 schedule includes a mix of rock, disco, country, and soul acts, which include:
- Escape: June 23
- Disco Inferno: June 30
- Panama: July 7
- The Caliber Band: July 14
- 52nd Street/Captain Fantastic: July 21
- The Hesitations: July 28
- Mr. Speed: August 4
“Our goal was to present a family-friendly, festival environment. We have some great bands lined up this year and we’ve added some new things we hope everyone will enjoy,” says City Manager, Ken Filipiak, “We’re continuing to build off what’s been successful in the past and we think this will be a premier event for years to come.”
One new feature is the expansion of food offerings.
“In the past, people have packed their picnic baskets and they can still do that if they’d like,” Ante Logarusic, Community Relations Administrator. “This year, you can come hungry because we’ll have a lot of different foods available to suit everyone’s taste.”
Concertgoers will be able to enjoy wood-fired pizzas, barbecue specialties as well as snacks like kettle corn. One of this year’s vendors is The Manna Truck, a gourmet food truck which serves everything from burgers to lobster rolls. The Manna Truck was named “2014 Food Truck of the Year” by Cleveland Magazine readers.
The Mentor summer concert series has been presented through a partnership with the City of Mentor and the Mentor Community Arts Commission for over 30 years.
“Judging by attendance in the past, it’s obvious that a great time is always had by all. We’re looking forward to what’s in store this year and we’re proud to present it to our community,” says Ray Kirchner, President of Mentor City Council.
