A comprehensive plan (“comp plan”) is a guidebook for the city, looking 20 years or more into the future of land use and how the city should evolve. The last comprehensive plan was adopted by City Council in April 2011. The City of Mentor is excited to prepare an updated comp plan that will preserve what residents and businesses value, enhance what needs to be improved, and create opportunities that will address what the city is missing from a land use and zoning perspective.
The 2025 Comprehensive Land Use Plan Update will build on the Housing Study completed in 2024 and focus on an analysis of commercial and industrial zoned areas of the city where development or re-development opportunities exist. This review process will also factor in how current economic conditions will influence future development trends. This comprehensive review will result in the establishment of practical land use policy statements and goals and zoning code strategies that will guide development decisions for many years to come.
For the plan update to be successful, it must also be driven by the vision and values of the people that live and work here. There will be opportunities throughout this plan update for public engagement, from attending community open houses to completing an online survey. A steering committee has also been formed that is comprised of city leaders and community stakeholders who will offer guidance and participate in the plan review process. This page will be regularly updated with information to keep the public informed of the plan’s progress and meeting schedules and provide access to relevant materials that are part of this review. The City has contracted with Stantec Consulting Services, Inc. to guide us through this important planning effort.
