Offshore power boat racing is coming to Northeast Ohio this summer.
The Park Ohio Offshore Power Boat Race will be held on Sunday, August 28, 2016 at Headlands Beach State Park in Mentor, Ohio.
Race organizers state that the event will draw 40 to 50 powerboat racing teams from around the world. Upwards of 40,000 spectators are expected to attend.
“These are not your typical boats. These are world-class offshore powerboats capable of reaching speeds of up to 200 MPH,” said Mark Small, Promoter for the event and Captain of the #4 Cleveland Construction Offshore Racing Team. “These multi-million-dollar competition boats are supported by professional staff and crew from a dozen different countries. This is real offshore racing at its best and its coming to Mentor Ohio.”
“This would have never come to be absent the support from local business such as ParkOhio and K&D together with our partners; the City of Mentor and the other local authorities”.
The City of Mentor, Lake County, the Ohio Department of Natural Resources as well as Grand River and Fairport Harbor are working closely with organizers to ensure success of this international event and are excited about the impact the race will have on the economy.
“We are thrilled to host this event here in Mentor. Having attended a number of these races, I can tell you that the atmosphere is absolutely electric. This is sure to be an exciting, family-friendly event and I’m proud that we could be a part of it,” said Mentor Councilman, Scott J. Marn.
The City is pleased to help bring this event to Mentor and Lake County as a part of CityFest.
