The Lake County Council on Aging wants to remind Lake County residents that heating assistance is available this winter to eligible households through the Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP). The Council on Aging offers free support to Lake County seniors and adults with disabilities to better understand and apply for the popular federally-funded program.
HEAP is administered by the Ohio Development Services Agency and helps eligible Ohioans meet the high costs of home heating. If determined eligible, a one-time HEAP benefit will appear as a credit applied to your energy bill by your utility company (or fuel vendor).
“We want to educate more seniors and adults with disabilities about the program and assist them with applying,” said Jennifer McLaughlin, Manager of the Lake County Aging and Disability Resource Center. “If you have never heard of HEAP or have never checked to see if you are eligible, I encourage you to give us a call or stop in.”
The Lake County Council on Aging has staff available to help individuals understand the program guidelines, assist with the application process, and provide follow-up assistance. Program information is provided by telephone, walk-in, or email. Application assistance is available at the Council on Aging office located at 8520 East Ave., Mentor. In-home appointments are available to home-bound seniors and disabled adults who need help with the application process.
To set up an appointment or to receive an application by mail, simply call the agency at 440-205-8111 or email info@lccoa.org.
