Fall is a great time to spruce up your yard, home, and shed. Rake your leaves, clean out the closets, and get rid of old or expired pool or lawn chemicals, oil-based paints and more at Lake County’s Household Hazardous Waste Collection.
Bulk Collection
Weekly bulk pick-up is available to those Waste Management customers with regular curbside pickup.
Residents can dispose of appliances, furniture and other large items that might not fit in a container. Prohibited materials include tires, hazardous materials, yard waste, construction or demolition debris, large auto parts or dead animals. CFC’s in air conditioners and refrigerators MUST be removed prior to pick up and the appliance must be property tagged by a certified technician.
Make sure your material is set out at the curb no later than 7:00 A.M. on the day of your collection. There are no callbacks for service. You may place your materials out no earlier than 3:00 P.M. on the day before your collection. Materials are collected by separate vehicles, and therefore, could be collected at different times on your scheduled day (between the hours of 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.).
Yard Waste Program
The City of Mentor Yard Waste Program runs from the first full week of April through the second full week of December. In 2021, collection will end during the week of December 13th.
Collection is limited to 12 units per week from April through the third week of October and increases to 25 units per week the last full week of October through the 2nd week of December. Each unit should weigh less than 35 lbs.
Yard waste must be at the curb before 7 AM on collection day but not before 3 PM the day before collection. Bins must be removed from the right of way by 7 AM the day following collection.
Brush and twigs can be bundled. Branches should not exceed three-inches in diameter and must be cut into 4-foot lengths and tied in bundles.
Grass clippings, plants, leaves, small twigs, hedge trimmings, etc. can be contained in biodegradable paper yard waste bags. Plastic bags are not accepted.
Waste can also be placed into reusable containers of up to 32-gallon capacity with holes drilled on the side near the bottom to allow for water drainage. Please leave the lid off and ensure that the container is prominently marked YW.

Household Hazardous Waste
Get rid of chemicals, oil paint and other items that should not go in the landfill at the Lake County Household Hazardous Waste collection. Bring items to the Lake County Fairgrounds (enter on Mentor Avenue) on Saturday, September 25th from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Accepted items include: Automotive fluids: motor oil, gasoline, coolants, antifreeze, grease. oil based paints, varnish, shellacs, stains, aerosols, polyurethanes, primers & grout. Bulbs & batteries: all sizes (lead acid & household) Fluorescent bulbs. Household cleaners & solvents: thinners, kerosene, turpentine, lighter fluid, & paint strippers. Liquids/solids: pool, lawn & garden chemicals, pesticides, weed killers, spray insecticides, “hobby” chemicals, mercury, empty propane tanks, roofing tars, drive sealers, & adhesives.
Prohibited items include: Ammunition, explosives, medical waste including prescription medicines, smoke alarms or any other item not on the accepted list.
