All are invited to attend as the city of Mentor hosts their annual Memorial Day Ceremony on Monday, May 29, 2023, at 9:45 AM at the Mentor Municipal Cemetery located at 6881 Hopkins Road.
The ceremony will be proceeded by a solemn parade which will step-off at 9:20 AM from Memorial Middle School located at 8979 Mentor Avenue and then proceed north to the cemetery.
Members of city council and administration, county and state elected officials, and other civic groups including AMVETS Post 40 and VFW Post 9295 will be in attendance. The keynote address will be given by Ohio Secretary of State, Frank LaRose.
Secretary LaRose is a decorated combat veteran with over a decade of service in uniform. He began that service in the 101st Airborne as a combat engineer and continued on to become a US Army Green Beret. He is currently a Sergeant First Class in the US Army Reserve Special Forces; he has earned a Bronze Star for his service in Iraq and has defended US interests all around the world. He is now in his second term as Ohio’s chief elections official and gateway to new businesses.
The ceremony, typically held at the southern end of the cemetery, will now take place on the new Memorial Promenade located near the administration building which will be formally dedicated with a ribbon cutting at 10:30 AM.
