Mentor Police patrolmen Ryan Heramb, Jacob Jones, and Jacob Hendrickson were honored with the Lake County Association of Chiefs of Police Life Saving Award at their March 5, 2025 meeting.
The recognition stems from their heroic actions on October 19, 2024, when they responded to a crash on Argee Drive when a 42-year-old man, driving northbound with his 10-year-old son, suffered a medical emergency, causing his vehicle to veer off the road and strike two trees.
Patrolman Jones was the first to arrive and immediately recognized the driver was experiencing a cardiac event. Without hesitation, he began lifesaving chest compressions. Moments later, Patrolmen Heramb and Hendrickson arrived, and the three officers took turns administering CPR for approximately five minutes until Mentor Rescue arrived.
The driver was transported to Cleveland Clinic Main Campus, where he underwent quadruple bypass surgery and made a full recovery. Thanks to the quick, coordinated efforts of these officers, a life was saved.
