Fire has always held a certain intrigue for children and adults alike.   Children are fascinated by fire, and they are no strangers to its use in their lives.  From a very young age, children watch their families celebrate birthdays, highlighted by a ceremony of lighting birthday candles.  They are exposed to both proper and improper use of fire throughout their childhood.  Fire dances and flickers,  piquing the natural curiosity children have about their world. Fire also triggers the senses of touch,  hearing,  and even taste when it is used to make food.  So, it is natural that children and adults are drawn to and curious about it.

However, youth fire setting is a serious concern that should never be taken lightly, even if the behavior seems minor or harmless. Curiosity about fire can quickly lead to dangerous situations that put lives and property at risk. If you suspect your child has been experimenting with fire in any way, we encourage you to reach out to us for guidance and support. Our department is here to help educate families, address concerns early, and provide resources to keep your child and our community safe.
