Fall Bird Banding

Change is in the air as Fall arrives in Mentor. Warm days and crisp nights lead to breath-taking vistas aglow with the natural beauty of autumn color. The City of Mentor’s Natural Resources division is offering free guided hikes and programs to help you explore Mentor’s 1200-acre park system

Guided Hikes
Departure of the Birds (ages 7+)
– Wednesday, September 21, 8 – 10 AM. Fall migration has begun, and our feathered friends are on their way south for the winter.  Join us, bring binoculars and see who is stopping to rest at the Mentor Lagoons on their way to warmer weather.

Seasons of the Marsh Hike (ages 10+) – October 20, 5 to 6:30 PM. Explore the Mentor Lagoons Nature Preserve in Fall.

Full Moon Walk (ages18+) – October 9, 9 to 10 PM. The full moon will light the trail as we look for nocturnal wildlife.

Colorful History Hikes (ages 18+) – Enjoy the fall leaves, look for migrating birds and learn about the history of our Parks. Mondays, 2-3:30 PM (age 18+)

October 10 – Springbrook Gardens Park
October 17 – Wildwood Cultural Center & Park
October 24 – Mentor Lagoons Nature Preserve

Migratory Bird Banding (ages 7+) See Migrating birds up close on October 1st from 8:00 – 11:00 AM! Learn from trained ornithologists on how they capture birds, band them, and safely send them on their way. Find out why scientists tag migratory birds and what reveals about bird populations.
