Lake County Emergency Siren Test
When: 11:00 am - 11:03 am
Where: Lake County, OH, USA
Local emergency sirens in Lake, western Ashtabula, and northern Geauga counties will be tested to make sure the sirens are in good working order. At 11:00 AM, you’ll hear a steady siren tone for approximately three minutes. This test is part of the local emergency preparedness program conducted to ensure that the sirens around the Perry Power Plant are working properly.
Please do not call 911 unless you are having an emergency.
WHAT A SIREN CAN SIGNAL
Areas around the Perry Plant have emergency sirens. The sirens being tested would sound if there is a recommendation for the public to take protective action such as shelter or evacuation. Sirens would be sounded three times, and each three-minute sounding would be separated by a 30-second break. You may also be warned by loud speakers used by fire and police departments.
In the event of an actual emergency, turn on your radio or television and tune to one of the following stations.

Listen for emergency information and follow the instruction given by emergency officials. It is recommended that a battery-powered radio and spare batteries be included in your home emergency supplies. This will enable you to listen to emergency information if there is a power outage.
If you live within 10 miles of the Perry Power Plant and would need transportation or other assistance during an emergency, please contact your county’s emergency management agency or department of emergency services at the appropriate number listed below to make sure you receive the assistance you need. This information will be kept confidential and will only be used to ensure you are provided with help during an emergency.
ATTENTION LAKE COUNTY RESIDENTS
Sirens in Lake County will be sounded if the National Weather Service issues a TORNADO WARNING for Lake County.

2026 Fall Yard Waste Program Increase
When: 12:00 am - 11:59 pm
The City of Mentor Yard Waste Program runs from the first full week of April through the second full week of December.
During the Fall, the amount of yard waste homeowners can put out each week increases from 12 to 25 units from October 26 through December 11, 2026. A unit is one bag, bundle or container of yard waste.
A few reminders of requirements: Each unit should weigh less than 35 lbs. Branches should not exceed three-inches in diameter and must be cut into 4-foot lengths and tied in bundles. Only biodegradable paper yard waste bags should be used. Plastic bags are not accepted. Waste can also be placed into reusable containers of up to 32-gallon capacity with holes drilled on the side near the bottom to allow for water drainage. Please leave the lid off and ensure that the container is prominently marked YW.
Due to heavy yard waste volumes during the Fall, Waste Management is adding additional trucks and additional employees. As a result collection times may vary from other times in the year. To avoid having a collection missed please set out all waste the night before your collection day.

Mentor Marsh Master Plan Public Meeting 2

Residents and stakeholders are invited to attend Public Meeting #2 for the Mentor Marsh Master Plan on Wednesday, October 28, 2026,from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Springbrook Gardenhouse, 6776 Heisley Road, Mentor, OH 44060.
The project team will share how past community input has shaped a plan that blends ecology, restoration, preservation, education, and cultural storytelling. The meeting is free and open to the public. No registration needed.
Mentor Marsh is one of Ohio’s most important wetlands. The Cleveland Museum of Natural History, City of Mentor, and Lake County are working with SmithGroup to create a Master Plan that will improve the visitor experience, accessibility, and infrastructure while protecting the marsh's natural resources and supporting future opportunities.
