The City of Mentor wishes everyone a Happy Juneteenth!
Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, the day enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas, received word of their emancipation—more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. On that day, over 250,000 African Americans celebrated their freedom, marking what is now known as Juneteenth or Freedom Day.
City offices and facilities remain open today for regular business.
