Mentor Police will be hosting their fifth annual Fill-a-Cruiser Food Drive on Sunday, November 18, 2018 from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM at the Giant Eagle supermarket located at 7960 Plaza Boulevard in Mentor.

“This summer we lost one of our Officers in the line of duty – Patrolman Mathew Mazany.   The community support that we received in the days and months following his death was overwhelming and truly appreciated,” says Detective Steve Ondercin, “Our Fill-A-Cruiser Food Drive is one way that we can say ‘Thank You’ and pay it forward to those who might also be going through a difficult time during the holiday season.”

Last year, generous shoppers helped fill three police SUVs and donated over $2,686 bringing the five-year total to $7,955.

Donated food is distributed to food pantries to benefit families within the City of Mentor.  Money collected is used to support Mentor’s Kops-N-Kids program.

The Kops-N-Kids program is a volunteer program started in 1983 that provides holiday gifts for kids in need. The program accepts outside donations and holds an annual golf outing to raise funds for the program.  Families are identified with the help of the Mentor School System, the Mentor’s Victim’s Assistance program as well as police officers themselves.
