Memorial Day Ceremony

All are invited to attend the city of Mentor’s annual Memorial Day Ceremony on Monday, May 27, 2024, at 10:00 AM at the Mentor Municipal Cemetery.

The ceremony will be preceded by a solemn procession which will step-off at 9:30 AM from Memorial Middle School located at 8979 Mentor Avenue. It will proceed north to the cemetery, arriving at the Mentor Memorial Promenade.

Our keynote speaker this year will be author/historian Todd Arrington, Ph.D., who serves as Site Manager for the James A. Garfield National Historic Site. Then Congressman James A. Garfield delivered the keynote address at the very first Decoration Day ceremony held at Arlington National Cemetery on May 30, 1868. Decoration Day would eventually become known as Memorial Day.

Members of city council and administration, county and state elected officials, and other veterans and civic groups will be in attendance.

The ceremony will be recorded in its entirety and broadcast on the Mentor Channel as well as shared on social media for those unable to attend.

Mentor Municipal Cemetery is located at 6881 Hopkins Road.
