Mentor Heisley Racquet & Fitness Club

Many Mentor residents are probably already aware that the City of Mentor has agreed to purchase the Mentor Heisley Racquet and Fitness Club (MHRFC) and will take possession on December 31st of this year.  We are excited about the future of the facility and how it will continue to serve the greater Mentor community as it transitions to a public facility.  We realize that there are a number of other questions that people may have related to the facility as it transitions to becoming the new Mentor Civic Recreation Center.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  1. Is the facility closing?
The City will formally take possession of the property on December 31, 2021. The MHRFC will continue to operate as it does today through April 30, 2022. The facility will close on May 1, 2022 so that renovations and other improvements can be implemented. The intent is to reopen the new Mentor Civic Recreation Center in summer 2022.
  2. What is happening with leagues and programs that are currently in session?
The leagues and programs will continue to operate at the MHRFC through April 30, 2022. We will attempt to relocate some programs to other Mentor facilities while the facility is being renovated.
  3. Are you getting rid of the soccer fields, sports courts, or pools?
The facility was purchased because of the great amenities that currently exist. Some reconfiguration and repurposing of space may occur with the intention of offering more recreational opportunities to members.
  4. What kind of programs can we expect?
Over 1,000 programs across 8 categories will be implemented at the facility. Programs will be in place to appeal to members of all ages and activity levels – from toddlers to seniors – including some special needs programming.
  5. What is the status of my membership if I am already a member?
Your membership will remain valid through April 30, 2022 at the membership rate you are currently paying.  Members who have purchased annual memberships through the MHRFC should have been contacted by the previous owner to work out the prorated membership refund. Members who wish to continue to use the facility from December 31, 2021, through April 30, 2022, will have to fill out the interim membership application form and return it to the front desk upon entry.
  6. How much is the new membership fee?
The new membership fee structure including residents and non-residents is yet to be determined but we can ensure that memberships will cost less than the fee structure that is currently in place. It is a primary goal to ensure that memberships are affordable for all families.
  7. What is happening with the current MHRFC staff?
The City of Mentor is working closely with MHRFC management to evaluate current and future staffing needs. Our hope is to retain the experienced staffers that members have come to know over the years and keep them onboard.
