The Mentor Police Department has announced that the Ohio Department of Public Safety has awarded the department $58,807.26 in federal traffic safety funding. The funds are passed through the Ohio Traffic Safety Office (OTSO) from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to focus on traffic law enforcement.
The purpose of the grant is to assist in assigning patrol officers traffic duties focusing on priority violations, such as impaired and distracted driving, seatbelt use, speed, and motorcycle safety. The ultimate goal is to promote safe streets and reduce fatalities.
The Mentor Police Department would like to remind everyone to practice safe driving habits. Wear your seatbelt, don’t text and drive, and if you are drinking, pass your keys to a sober driver.
