The City of Mentor is nearing completion of a dedicated veterans columbaria section at the Mentor Municipal Cemetery, creating a permanent place of honor for those who served and for the spouses who stood beside them. The new Veteran Honor Walls include 14 columbaria, with each columbarium having 32 niches for a total of 448 dedicated spaces. The project fulfills a long-standing goal to give Mentor’s veterans a special place of remembrance.
“These Honor Walls provide a dedicated place for family and visitors to remember the special men and women who wore the uniforms of our country and those who shared that life of service,” said City Manager Kenneth J. Filipiak, “Mentor will care for this ground with the dignity their service deserves.”
Mentor City Council will officially dedicate the Veteran Honor Walls during their Veterans Day Memorial Service November 11, 2026, which begins at 11:00 AM. The service commences at the Mentor Municipal Cemetery Memorial Promenade, and near the conclusion of the service, the attendees will walk to the south end of the cemetery for the dedication. Niches may be purchased beginning November 1, 2026. Inurnment of cremated remains will begin after Veterans Day.
Eligibility is limited to United States Armed Forces veterans and their spouses. Each niche may hold the cremated remains of the veteran and the veteran’s spouse (two cremains maximum). Proof of service will be required at the time of purchase.
Families interested in purchasing a niche should contact the Mentor Municipal Cemetery office by calling (440) 974-5733, emailing [email protected], or visiting the cemetery office Monday through Friday between 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM. City staff will review niche locations, fees, and inscription options with all interested.
