Several popular recycling collections will be available again this year for county residents. For the first time, the County will be offering electronics collections in addition to the usual scrap tire and household hazardous waste collections.
The collections are sponsored by the Lake County Department of Utilities, the Solid Waste District, the Board of County Commissioners, and the Lake County Ohio State University Extension; and, are specifically for residential customers. Items will not be accepted from commercial, business, or industrial customers.
The electronics collections will be held on April 28 and again on August 18 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the fairgrounds in Painesville Township. Most corded and rechargeable household electronics, including tube televisions, will be accepted. There will be a fee for tube/CRT TV’s based upon the monitor size. Monitors up to 21 inches will cost $5 and sizes 22 inches and larger will cost $10—this will apply to both projection and console televisions. Residents can be assured all memory components on personal and computer related devices will be professional erased or destroyed prior to being processed and recycled.
A scrap tire collection will be held on May 5 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the fairgrounds. Residents are able to bring six car or light-truck tires without rims free of charge. There are fees for additional tires without rims of $2 each, tires with rims are $4 each and oversized tires are $10 each.
The household hazardous waste collections will be held at the fairgrounds on June 9 and again on September 22 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.. Residents are encouraged to remove hazardous substances from their garages, sheds, basements, closets, bathrooms, and kitchen pantries, thereby reducing confusion, abuse and wrongful disposal of these unwanted substances down the drain or in the trash. All household hazardous waste collected during these events will be recycled or destroyed safely by neutralization or incineration.
