The Lake County Solid Waste District has entered into a contract with Rumpke Waste & Recycling for a single stream drop-off recycling bin to be placed at the Lake County Landfill, located at 1981 Blase Nemeth Rd. in Painesville Twp. The bin will be available for all Lake County residents and businesses Monday thru Friday from 7:00AM to 3:30PM, starting December 3, 2018.

In an effort to highlight the importance of recycling and the reduction of recyclables thrown in the garbage, the Lake County Solid Waste District is hoping this initiative will provide Lake County residents the option to recycle, even if their residences or businesses do not offer it.

“This is an important service for many residents living in apartments and condos that do not offer recycling service,” said Tim Gourley, Coordinator of Lake County Solid Waste District. “This new drop-off location is open to the entire county, and is easily accessed from Route 2,” said Gourley.

Acceptable items that can be placed in the bin: Paper: office paper, junk mail, folders, magazines, catalogs, phone books, newspapers, flatten cardboard, paperboard, paper cartons (remove and discard straws), and only clean pizza boxes. Plastics: bottles and jugs (caps included). Metals: aluminum cans, steel and tin cans. Glass: Any color glass (remove, discard caps). All recyclable containers should be emptied and rinsed out prior to collection.

In order to maximize space and collection volume, the District asks that residents avoid using bags, to breakdown cardboard boxes, and to loosely place only the permitted recyclable materials into the single stream recycling bin. Prohibited items are plastic bags (accepted at Giant Eagle, Marc’s, Target and Heinen’s stores), styrofoam, medical sharps and syringes, window glass, drinking glasses, coat hangers, scrap metal (accepted at scrap yards), pizza boxes containing grease and food, and plastics that are not bottles or jugs. These prohibited items should be placed in your wastebasket.
