The City of Mentor will begin storm debris collection efforts on Tuesday, August 29, 2023, in response to damage caused throughout the city as a result of last Friday’s EF1 tornado.

Public Works crews will travel throughout the city beginning with the heaviest hit areas first.

STORM DEBRIS
Those residents who have experienced storm damage to their trees may bring limbs no greater than 6″ in diameter to the curbside to be chipped and removed. There will be no limitation to the length of the limbs and branches do not need to be tied. Residents are asked to not place any debris in the roadway or sidewalk.

Residents with additional storm debris are asked to notify the Mentor Public Works Department at (440) 974-5781 or email pubworks@cityofmentor.com so that that material pickup can be categorized and prioritized.

EXCESSIVE STORM DEBRIS
Residents with debris which exceeds 6” in diameter should make arrangements with a private contractor to have ALL debris completely removed from their property. A list of tree removal contractors registered with the city can be accessed below.

REGULAR YARD WASTE PICKUP
Mentor’s annual yard waste program is currently underway and yard waste will be collected on your regular trash day.   Collection is typically limited to 12 units per week at this time, but will be expanded over the next several weeks to accommodate storm debris. Each unit should weigh less than 35 lbs. Brush should not exceed three inches in diameter and must be cut into four-foot lengths and tied in bundles. Grass clippings, plants, leaves, small twigs, hedge trimmings, etc. can be contained in paper yard waste bags or rigid containers up to 32-gallon capacity with holes drilled on the side near the bottom to allow for water drainage. Leave the lid off and mark the container with YW.

If you have any questions, or require additional assistance, please contact the Mentor Public Works Department.
