Local emergency sirens in Lake, western Ashtabula, and northern Geauga counties will be tested to make sure the sirens are in good working order. At 11:00 AM, you’ll hear a steady siren tone for approximately three minutes. This test is part of the local emergency preparedness program conducted to ensure that the sirens around the Perry Power Plant are working properly.

Please do not call 911 unless you are having an emergency.

WHAT A SIREN CAN SIGNAL
Areas around the Perry Plant have emergency sirens. The sirens being tested would sound if there is a recommendation for the public to take protective action such as shelter or evacuation. Sirens would be sounded three times, and each three-minute sounding would be separated by a 30-second break. You may also be warned by loud speakers used by fire and police departments.

In the event of an actual emergency, turn on your radio or television and tune to one of the following stations.

Listen for emergency information and follow the instruction given by emergency officials. It is recommended that a battery-powered radio and spare batteries be included in your home emergency supplies. This will enable you to listen to emergency information if there is a power outage.

If you live within 10 miles of the Perry Power Plant and would need transportation or other assistance during an emergency, please contact your county’s emergency management agency or department of emergency services at the appropriate number listed below to make sure you receive the assistance you need. This information will be kept confidential and will only be used to ensure you are provided with help during an emergency.

ATTENTION LAKE COUNTY RESIDENTS
Sirens in Lake County will be sounded if the National Weather Service issues a TORNADO WARNING for Lake County.

NOPEC is hosting an Electric Aggregation Informational Meeting on Monday, April 13, 2026, from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Mentor Public Library main branch. NOPEC team members will discuss the electric anniversary and provide details on the enrollment letter you will receive in the mail beginning April 2026. 

Every three years, NOPEC is required by the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) to send anniversary enrollment letters to all existing and newly eligible NOPEC electric customers. These letters will be mailed to Mentor residents this month.
