Mentor Police Department Off Road Vehicles

The Mentor Police Department is affording young people of our community the opportunity to experience law enforcement firsthand. The Mentor Junior Police Academy will be held from June 17  to June 21, 2024. Cadets will be dropped off at the Springbrook Gardens Park, 6776 Heisley Road, Mentor, by 8:15 am and will need to be picked up promptly at 3:00 pm. The academy will be similar in nature to those that actual police cadets attend. Students will learn the basic functions of a working police department, as well as have a chance to explore the idea of a possible career in this ever challenging and demanding field. Students will attend regular classes with topics including, but not limited to, patrol procedures, traffic enforcement, K9 handling, SWAT, CPR, Crime Scene processing, and self-defense. Cadets will take part in physical fitness sessions, which will also include drill instruction (marching). The classes will include lecture and hands-on experience. Cadets will not in any way be handling real firearms during the academy. Additional details regarding schedules and lunch/breaks will be covered once cadets are accepted into the academy.

The academy will consist of Mentor School District residents entering 6th, 7th, and 8th grade for the 2024/2025 school year. Students will be expected to take the program seriously and follow academy rules, which closely resemble school rules. Due to the seriousness of the content of this program, immature behavior will not be tolerated. The application should be completed and returned ASAP. Space is limited and applicants will be accepted on a first come, first serve basis.

The Mentor Police Department looks forward to working with your child and having a FUN academy! Please contact Officer Dan Radigan at radigan@cityofmentor.com with any additional questions or concerns.
