Mentor Ohio US Army Recruiter Staff Sergeant Charles Moss

For over 25 years, the US Army Recruiting Office in Mentor has helped individuals explore whether a career in the Army or Army Reserves is right for them. Their goal is to highlight the opportunities the Army offers to young people and their families through presentations at local schools, participation in sporting events, or face-to-face meetings in family homes.

In addition to serving as an informational resource, the recruitment office provides guidance based on recruiters’ personal experiences. “We offer insight into what the Army is, what it can offer, and how it can benefit a young person’s future,” says Staff Sergeant Charles A. Moss.

When asked why he chose a career in the Army and as a recruiter, Moss explains, “My family has a long line of military members, so I wanted to continue that legacy. I also wanted to give others the same opportunity I had to change my life for the better and explore the world.”

The Army offers a wide range of careers, from combat roles like infantry and armor to support and logistics positions such as finance and transportation, as well as specialized fields like cyber operations and medicine. It also has branches for areas like aviation, signal, and intelligence.

“Whether you serve for twenty years to qualify for a full pension or as little as three years, you’ll gain valuable life experience and on-the-job training with transferable certificates for the civilian sector,” says Moss. “Additionally, the Army can help pay tuition for your chosen school or pay off existing student loans.”

A military career isn’t for everyone, but a candid conversation with someone who has firsthand experience is worth the short drive from home.
