The meeting will be conducted in an open house format with representatives from the City of Mentor, along with consulting firm Stantec, on hand to explain the purpose of a comprehensive plan, acclimate residents on the process, and to gain feedback from the public. When: 9:30 am - 11:00 am All are invited to attend the city of Mentor’s annual Memorial Day Ceremony on Monday, May 26, 2025, at 10:00 AM at the Mentor Municipal Cemetery. The ceremony will be preceded by a solemn procession which will step-off at 9:30 AM from Memorial Middle School located at 8979 Mentor Avenue. It will proceed north to the cemetery, arriving at the Mentor Memorial Promenade. The keynote speaker this year will be US Army Captain Richard J. Whalen. The Staten Island, NY native is a 2019 graduate of West Point. After serving in a variety of roles both in the US and abroad, Whalen reported to the Cleveland Recruiting Battalion in December of 2023 where he served as the Assistant Operations Officer before taking Company Command. Members of city council and administration, county and state elected officials, and other veterans and civic groups will be in attendance. The ceremony will be recorded in its entirety and broadcast on the Mentor Channel as well as shared on social media for those unable to attend. When: 10:00 am - 2:00 pm Where: Lake County Fairgrounds, 1301 Mentor Ave, Painesville, OH 44077, USA The Lake County Solid Waste District will conduct a special collection of hazardous waste on Saturday,May 31, 2025, and Saturday, September 20, 2025, from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM at theLake County Fairgrounds located at 1301 Mentor Avenue. Lake County residents can drop off accepted items includingmost automotive and household cleaners; lawn, pool and unknown chemicals;lightbulbs and batteries; aerosols, empty propane tanks, kerosene, mercury,paints (oil-based), polyurethanes, primers and grout; roofing tars, shellacs,stains, thinners, turpentine and varnish. Prohibited items include ammunition, explosives, latex paint(dry it & toss it), medical waste, prescription medicines, and smoke alarms(mail to manufacturer). All items will be unloaded from your vehicle by thecollections team at the designated drop off point.
