Walk any beach and you will see that littering is still a big problem; not just in Ohio, but around the world. As part of the International Coastal Cleanup, the State of Ohio is sponsoring “Coastweeks” to educate and encourage people to help clean up Ohio beaches. The debris collected at all cleanups is recorded on data cards and is used as support for state, federal and international laws relating to water quality and pollution prevention.
The City’s “Keep Mentor Beautiful” program is hosting a Coastweeks Cleanup on Saturday, September 19th starting at 8:30 AM at the Mentor Lagoons Nature Preserve and Marina. Community groups, organizations, businesses, and individuals can volunteer to help.
Our big event will be on Saturday, September 19th at the Mentor Lagoons Nature Preserve and Marina.
Volunteers are asked to gather starting at 8:30 a.m. You will be asked to sign in, form into teams of up to 6, receive data reporting cards and then be assigned an area to clean. Clean up is usually completed by noon. whats my ip Volunteers are reminded to dress for the weather as it can be cooler by the lake. Wear sturdy shoes and bring gloves if you have them. Some gloves are available but are limited in sizes. If the 19th is not good for you we can schedule another day or time that is more convenient for your group.
