Adult Fitness Courses
The Mentor Senior Center offers a variety of fitness classes to meet the needs of every member. Classes are designed for men and women ages 55 and better, all shapes, sizes and fitness levels. Please read our class descriptions below or view our program guide for full details.
Cardio-Kickboxing
The purpose of this class is a fun way to get in shape and stay in shape. You will increase your stamina and flexibility, tone your muscles, tighten your glutes, and amaze yourself with skills you didn’t know you had. All to great music… Please bring an exercise mat, water bottle, and 3-5 lb weights on Wednesdays. Don’t hesitate to come anytime to try it out first to see whether this class might be for you. Butt Kicking Boot Camp
Call (216) 536-8552 to register. This special indoor / outdoor boot camp class is designed to give you maximum results in minimum time by combining cardio, resistance training, abdominal/core exercises in each 30-minute boot camp class. Attendees can expect 5-12 lbs of weight loss, 1- 3′ inch decrease in mid-section, increases in strength and endurance. Most classes will be outdoors with beautiful Lake Erie views. Tai Chi for Health
Tai Chi can be described as meditation in motion. This gentle, continuous, moving exercise and mind-body practice is based upon Chinese martial arts, but most recently was adapted for improvements of health; such as balance, flexibility, fitness, pain and stress reduction. In this class, martial artist Denise Molesch will teach warm-ups, instruction and practice in the Sun style forms and exercises for adults of all ages and capabilities.
Arthritis Foundation Tai Chi
Arthritis Foundation Tai Chi classes were developed by Tai Chi Master and physician Dr. Paul Lam to engage participants of all ages, activity interest and levels in mindful, continuously moving, deep relaxing, low impact exercises. They can be taken by everyone, and are based upon the upright, agile, Sun style of Tai Chi Chuan. Lifelong martial artist Denise Molesch is certified in the Arthritis Foundation method and will guide you through the strengthening and therapeutic aspects of Tai Chi for increased personal wellness and health. Please wear loose comfortable clothing and tennis shoes.
Ballroom Dance
This class is great for anyone who wants to learn how to ballroom dance. We will learn the steps for dances such as Rumba, foxtrot, waltz, east coast swing, and much more. Come papered to have fun and make new friends! Not just for couples, singles welcome! Instructor: Maggie Runyon
Fencing
You’ll get plenty of exercise and fun as you learn the fundamentals of modern foil fencing in this new class which includes stretching, footwork, lunges, attack, parry-riposte, strategy, tactics and bouting. Fun and safety are emphasized while developing hand-eye coordination, agility, dexterity and stamina as well as social skills and manners. Body Sculpting by Exterior Designs

Phenomenal Abdominals®
Strengthen and firm your torso, flatten your belly, and define your midsection in this 30-minute class with new exercises devoted to working on the upper, lower and side abdominal muscles. Senior Center Fitness Center
We have a wonderful fitness center with a variety of cardiovascular equipment including 5 treadmills, 3 bikes, seated ellipticals, and standing ellipticals. The Tuff Stuff strength station offers a wide variety of exercises and the Precor stretch trainer offers great stretching options. You must be 55 years or older, a member of the senior center and must take the Fitness Orientation training class to participate in the fitness center. Personal training sessions are also available at an additional fee. Contact the center for details.

Fitness Orientation – Cardio Training
This 60-minute class will allow participants to practice basic equipment functions on the treadmill, elliptical, arc trainer, seated ellipticals, or seated bikes. Participants will learn how to operate machines, adjust settings, use heart rate functions, and learn proper form when using the equipment. While on the machines, participants will receive assistance in determining necessary seat or equipment adjustments, and be given a personalized target heart rate goal.
Fitness Orientation – Strength Training
This 60-minute class is designed for individuals who would like to receive basic hands-on assistance with our strength training equipment. Learn how to operate fundamental strength training machines focused on large muscle groups (such as chest, upper back, and hamstrings/quadriceps leg muscles) while using correct form and proper breathing techniques. Participants will receive assistance in determining their specific equipment adjustments and weight settings, and learn how to modify strength training exercises based on
individual health needs.
Chair Yoga
Chair yoga is designed to allow anyone to participate in a gentle form of yoga. It works the joints and muscles to increase flexibility, strength, balance and circulation and also encourages quiet reflection, relaxation, proper breathing and better posture.
Country Heat
Step right in to this easy-to-follow, completely exhilarating, country dance-inspired workout! No complicated moves. No memorizing routines. Just simply follow along to enjoy the low-impact, highenergy dance class set to the hottest country hits. You’ll have so much fun moving, stepping, clapping, stomping, and laughing, you’ll forget you’re burning mega calories and toning your body from head to toe!
Cardio/Strength/Stretch
This fun, energetic class will incorporate dance/boxing moves, a variety of strength training exercises each week and stretching for a complete work out.
Low Impact Aerobics
This energetic aerobics class is designed for able-bodied seniors, with a small amount of resistance bands and weights.
Silver Sneakers Enerchi Class
Enerchi combines flowing Tai Chi movements and Qigong exercises. Join us for this meditiation in motion exercise.
SilverSneakers Circuit
Experience standing, low-impact choreography alternated with standing upper-body strength work. This class is suitable for nearly every fitness level, and your instructor can adapt the exercises depending on your skill. (A chair is used for support.)
SilverSneakers Classic
Increase muscle strength and range of movement and improve activities for daily living. You’ll have a chair for seated exercises and standing support. Your instructor can modify the exercises for your fitness level.
SilverSneakers Yoga
Move through seated and standing yoga poses designed to increase flexibility, balance, and range of movement. Finish with restorative breathing exercises and final relaxation to promote reduced stress and mental clarity.
SilverSneakers Stability
Get stronger and improve your balance through exercises that strengthen the ankle, knee and hip joints, all in a fun and social setting. This class is designed specifically to help prevent falls.
SilverSneakers BOOM MUSCLE
This class incorporates athletic exercises that boost your overall fitness. Move through muscle-conditioning blocks and activity-specific drills to improve strength and functional skill. For intermediate to advanced.
SilverSneakers BOOM MIND
The best from yoga and Pilates are combined into one fusion class designed to relax your body and mind. The focus is on core muscles, lower-body strength and balance. For intermediate to advanced. Bring a mat.
SilverSneakers BOOM MOVE
This fun, dance-inspired workout improves your cardio fitness with easy-to-follow moves set to energizing music. For intermediate to advanced.
Stretch and Balance
This 45 minute class will involve seated and standing exercises with a focus on isolating muscles to improve balance and flexibility and stretching to increase mobility in muscles and joints. Balance exercises will increase awareness of proper body alignment during movement.
Water Exercise at Heisley
Improve your flexibility, strength and cardiovascular fitness with fun and energetic shallow water exercises. The certified instructor provides clear instruction from the pool deck.
Weight Training
Build muscle strength and bone density using resistance bands and weights while standing, while seated, and with mats on the floor.
Yoga
Ease muscle tensions, improve flexibility, and acquire a sense of wellness with a combination of gentle stretches and traditional yoga postures. Learn to coordinate breath with movement, which encourages quieting and relaxing the mind, focus and balance. Please bring a yoga mat and a firm cushion; wear loose or stretchy clothes for yoga classes. Multilevel Yoga is suitable for Beginners and Continuing Students. Intermediate Yoga is suitable for a range of abilities; prerequisite: Multilevel Yoga or previous Yoga experience.
Dance
Line Dancing for Beginners
This beginners class is for participants who have never done line dance. The most basic steps will be broken down so you can join ongoing classes at a later date.
Line Dancing
Enjoy a variety of music and dances, including popular wedding dances. These classes are a great way to have fun with others. Line dance helps us stay physically fit and alert.
