The Mentor Tree Commission will mark Earth Day by hosting a Tree Planting Clinic on Friday, April 22, 2022 from 1- 3 PM at Springbrook Gardens Park. The clinic will provide instruction on how to properly plant a tree and provide education on tree care and maintenance.
The City of Mentor manages a Street Tree program to promote the beautification of our streetscapes as well as help manage stormwater. The Mentor Tree Commission, appointed by City Council, administers Mentor’s Master Street Tree Plan. An important part of their mission is providing Mentor residents information about the benefits of trees and how to maintain the street trees planted in their yards.
At the Tree Planting Clinic, Tree Commission members, with help from the city’s Natural Resources Division, will plant a native species tree. Native trees are not only beautiful but provide benefits including food and shelter for area wildlife. The educational program will teach attendees the proper depth, soil preparation, watering and mulching necessary for a healthy sapling to thrive.
The event is free and open to the public. Springbrook Gardens Park is located on Heisley Road in Mentor. The clinic will take place in the area behind the city’s park maintenance building, at 9842 Heisley Road.
