Fall in Mentor is a beautiful time of year. Leaf cleanup and winterizing is just around the corner. We all want a beautiful lawn in the spring but please help prevent pollution of nearby streams and Lake Erie by following these simple tips this fall:
- Using a mulching lawn mower. Sweep grass clippings back into your lawn from your driveway and the street.
- Fertilize when there is no rain in the forecast and only use what is needed. Don’t over-fertilize.
- When winterizing your lawn equipment, try to prevent spills by using a container or absorbent material to catch any liquids during draining.
- Start a compost pile with your yard waste and leaves or properly dispose of them with your curbside pickup or a registered compost facility.
- Follow City guidelines for yard waste pickup. The yard waste program runs until the second full week of December.
