Independence Day is fast approaching, and our community will celebrate with family, friends, and food. However, some will choose to use fireworks during their celebrations. In 2022 the state of Ohio legalized the possession and discharge of fireworks, but it was left to each city to determine if it would be permitted in their community. The city of Mentor decided not to allow the sale or discharge of fireworks at any time during the year. A violation of the city fireworks ordinance is a fourth-degree misdemeanor.
The Mentor Police Department encourages everyone to have a fun and safe Fourth of July but to leave the fireworks out of your home celebration. Instead, join your friends & neighbors at the fireworks display at Civic Center Park.
