Fall is almost here and with the change of season come questions on programs and services offered by the City of Mentor. Here is some information on some common topics.
Deer Season
2020/2021 Deer Bow Hunter Permit Applications are available at the Recreation Department on the 2nd floor of the Mentor Municipal Center, or for download at www.mentornature.com. Hunting is only permitted on properties where the owner has granted permission. An archery proficiency test form must be returned with your application. A list of test sites is also available on the website.
Burned Out Streetlight?
First Energy is responsible for maintaining streetlights, but if you notice a burned-out streetlight, you may call Public Works at (440) 974-5781. Please have an accurate description of the location of the pole. The outage will be reported to First Energy.
Property Maintenance
Have a compliant about a Mentor property that is not being maintained? You may file a complaint with the City’s Code Enforcement department. Contact them by call 440-974-5792 or download a complaint form at cityofmentor.com. You’ll find it on the Code Enforcement page.
Bulk Item Disposal
Residents with Waste Management service can dispose of appliances, furniture and other large items that might not fit in a container. Prohibited materials include tires, hazardous materials, yard waste, construction or demolition debris, large auto parts or dead animals. CFC’s in air conditioners and refrigerators MUST be removed prior to pick up and the appliance must be property tagged by a certified technician.
Solicitation
It is unlawful to solicit within the city without first obtaining a solicitor’s permit from the Police Department. Those who have obtained a solicitor’s permit may solicit within the City of Mentor between 9 AM and 7 PM. It is unlawful to solicit at any premise at which a “No Solicitors” sign is displayed. “No Solicitors” signs are available at the Mentor Police Department or from the receptionist desk at City Hall. Political Yard Signs
Mentor residents are reminded that our ordinances allow one ground sign per development unit (your yard) with a maximum area of 15 square feet year round. During the election cycle however, one additional ground sign is permitted per candidate and/or ballot issue for which a voter in the City may cast a ballot. No signs are permitted to be placed in the public right of way, including tree lawns. You can report nonconforming signs by contacting the Code Enforcement Department at codeenforcement@cityofmentor.com.
