Most would agree that tree lined streets add a sense of character to any community. Many of the neighborhoods in the City of Mentor are well established with mature trees. We wanted to offer a reminder that property owners are responsible for all tree maintenance, including those located on the tree lawn.

Annual inspections are conducted throughout the city to ensure the safety of our residents. You, or your neighbors, may have received a letter advising that trees lining your street are encroaching the roadway and/or sidewalk and impede vehicular or pedestrian traffic. Our ordinance dictates that trees along roadways must be trimmed to a height of 14 feet above the road surface, and 7 feet above the sidewalk.

Please take the time to inspect your trees and arrange for trimming if it looks like it is required.
