Keeping the roadways clear of ice and snow is an important job and the City of Mentor’s Public Works Department works hard to keep motorists safe and on the road.
During a snow storm, plows focus initially on the main roads to benefit the greatest number of motorists. Once the main roads are cleared and salted, side streets and cul-de-sacs are plowed.
The Public Works Department is responsible for maintaining approximately 500 lane miles of roadway, utilizing 15 – 20 plows for a routine snowfall, and as many as 40 trucks during a major snow event.
Our drivers have an important job to do and they take great pride in their snow removal efforts. In turn, motorists can do their part by giving themselves extra time to reach their destination and driving slowly and with greater caution when the snow flies.
