Mentor City Council held their biannual organizational meeting on January 4, 2022.
Re-elected Councilpersons-at-Large, Janet A. Dowling (Exp. 1/1/26), Scott J. Marn (Exp. 1/2/26), and Ray Kirchner (Exp. 1/3/26) were sworn-in by City Law Director Joseph P. Szeman.
Ward-2 Councilperson, Matthew E. Donovan, was elected President-of-Council. Councilperson-at-Large, Scott J. Marn, was elected Vice-President of Council. Both will serve a 2-year term in their respective roles.
Mark T. Freeman was nominated and approved by members of Council to fulfill the term of Ward-3 Councilperson Bruce R. Landeg which expires on December 31, 2023. Mr. Landeg recently retired as Chief Deputy Engineer with Lake County and resigned his seat on Council in order to be closer to family which reside out-of-state.
A number of appointments were made to Mentor boards and commissions.
Lisa Marinelli, Joseph Primiano, and Christopher Green were appointed to the Mentor Board of Building and Zoning Appeals for terms expiring December 31, 2025
Brian Cook, Richard Thiedemann, John Crocker, and Riley Small were appointed to the Mentor Municipal Planning Commission for terms expiring December 31, 2025.
Daniel Llewellyn and Diane Pauley were appointed to the Mentor Civil Service Commission for terms expiring December 31, 2025.
Renee Augusta, Jacqueline Sajewski, Susan Paternelj, Jean Reilly, Marilyn Repasky, Mary Stewart, John Troxell, and Renee Sanzo were appointed to the Community Arts Commission for terms expiring December 31, 2024.
Alan Gephardt was appointed to the Fair Housing Board for a term expiring December 31, 2024.
Stephen Ammerman and John Aten were appointed to the Income Tax Board of Review for terms expiring December 31, 2023
Louise Mills was appointed to the Mentor Tree Commission for a term expiring on December 31, 2025.
Finally, members of Council approved recommendation to Lake County Commissioners for the appointment of Ron Wassum to fulfill the term of Mark T. Freeman on the Lake Development Authority Board of Directors.
