NOPEC (Northeast Ohio Public Energy Council) is a nonprofit energy supplier that provides competitive gas and electric rates to residents and small businesses through a buy-in-bulk approach.
Mentor has been a part of NOPEC since it was founded in 2000. Today, the organization serves over 240 communities across the State of Ohio.
As a NOPEC community, all eligible residential and small business accounts are automatically enrolled in NOPEC’s natural gas and electric aggregation program. Every two years, “opt-out” notices for natural gas pricing are sent to NOPEC households, reminding them that they may opt-out of the program should they find a better price on supplied energy. Electrical opt-out notices are sent every three years.
Often consumers are required to remain with the energy provider for several years or pay a penalty fee to switch. NOPEC customers who do not opt-out but wish to change suppliers before the end of the natural gas agreement can do so without a charge. Consumers who leave the electric program before the end of NOPEC’s contract will pay a cancellation fee.
To date, this has been a win-win relationship. In addition to the significant energy savings residents have realized over the years, the city has been awarded over $955,000 dollars in energy efficiency grants to fund a number of public projects including LED light conversions. The energy savings achieved through these projects have allowed taxpayer funds to benefit our community in other ways.
All in all, the choice is yours but NOPEC is here to offer great long-term gas and electric rates to Mentor residents and businesses.
