The City of Mentor formally dedicated the recently completed Public Safety Forces Memorial on Thursday, June 24, 2021, at 7:00 PM at the Mentor Civic Center Campus.
The memorial was built to honor City of Mentor first responders who have died in service of their community. It is located at the corner of Civic Center Boulevard and Munson Road (8467 Civic Center Boulevard) between the Mentor Police Department and Mentor Fire Station 5. It was designed with the assistance of a committee of Mentor fire and police officers and is meant to serve as a place of reflection. Construction of the base and landscaping was performed by the Mentor Public Works Department and the memorial itself was donated by Brunner Sanden Deitrick Funeral Home & Cremation Center.
The dedication of the memorial coincided with the third anniversary of the passing of Mentor Police Officer Mathew Mazany who was killed in the line of duty by an impaired driver on June 24, 2018.
City officials, members of neighboring safety forces, families of the fallen, and members of the public, were in attendance of the dedication.
