Mentor Senior Center Activities

In-person classes, celebration lunches, SilverSneakers classes, arts and crafts, games, and just hanging out with friends, are all back at the Mentor Senior Center. Perhaps the one positive take away from the pandemic is realizing just how much we appreciate companionship. Whether it is taking a trip together, exercising in a group or enjoying lunch in the Great Room, being together and enjoying activities with friends enhances all that we do.

And, while the Mentor Senior Center was always a place to meet and make friends, it is even more so today. We have brought back old familiar activities and created some new ones that invite folks to gather, learn, embrace adventure, create healthy habits, and share.

Senior Center membership is required to participate in all programs – but for those 55+ it is the best bargain in town! The cost is just $7 a year for

Mentor residents and $10 a year for non-residents. If you have SilverSneakers included in your Medicare Advantage Plan, you get membership at no cost.

Activities offered at the facility include all levels of exercise classes, games including Bingo and Duplicate Bridge, ceramics, chair volleyball, ping pong, quilting, painting, weight training, movies, support groups, culture groups. There truly is something for everyone.

Our travel program returns to the road. We offer day trips on motor coach buses traveling to Sauder Village, Amish Country, World’s Longest Garage Sale, Lunch with a President, and Hidden Cleveland. Or, register for our Senior center bus and travel to the Music Box Supper Club, Playhouse Square for “Ain’t Too Proud to Beg”, the Erie Station Dinner Theater and Cleveland Guardians games.

If you prefer overnight destinations, check out our trips to Hudson Valley and New York City.

A common topic for many seniors is balance, so the “Matter of Balance Class” is a perfect fit for anyone who would like to reduce the likelihood of falls and reduce the fear of falling. A Parkinson’s exercise class also returns to the center. This class is designed to empower people with Parkinson’s by optimizing their physical function and helping delay the progression of symptoms.

And, where else can you get a $5 made-from-scratch hot lunch? Specials include everything from roast turkey to cabbage rolls. Not only are the meals delicious, they fill a void by providing nutrition and variety for members that may not cook hot meals for themselves anymore.

Summer brings special meal opportunities. if you enjoy barbecues and good company, register for picnics on the patio the second Thursday of each month.

Valued above all else is the companionship the Mentor Senior Center offers to those in the community. Members can always find a friendly face, conversation and a warm welcome.
