Economic NewsThe unemployment rate for the City of Mentor decreases 6% to 14.1% for the month of May 2020 from April 2020. One year ago, the unemployment rate was 3.3%. In Lake County, the unemployment rate decreases 6% as well to 15.1% for the month of May; one year ago, it was 3.4%. The May figures show the impact of reopening businesses last month during the COVID-19 economic crisis for the City of Mentor.

Among cities in Ohio with a population of 50,000 or more, Columbus has the lowest unemployment rate at 12.3% with Kettering second at 12.7% and Cuyahoga Falls third at 13%; following fourth is Cincinnati at 13.5%, fifth is Hamilton at 13.6%, and Mentor is sixth with 14.1%. The City’s civilian labor force increased from 25,400 to 26,100.

The State of Ohio’s unemployment rate decreases 3.9% to 13.4% for the month of May.
